As we ourselves adopt to different seasons like winter, summer or monsoon our cars too face some common issues. Here we are discussing the Commons problems faced in winter season and how to identify them. Also some primary solution provided to avoid them or to be prepared for it. Some major points are:

  1. In winter majority of vehicle have issue of starting and prime reason being battery low. In winters the lead acid battery loose its potential upto 10%. So if the battery is giving issues in starting either go for recharging if under warranty or change it. While starting your car for first time in the day you should crank the engine and let it run for while so engine is roused. You can push the car and put into gear to start the car but if not possible you can give a Jump Start to your battery.
  2. If the car is causing starting troubles even after trying ignition for 5-6 times then turn off all the electronic mediums like music, ac/heater, etc. and try couple of times again after 40-50 seconds break. Even this doesn’t work try the old school method of pushing the car if some friends are around you it would be easier to keep the gear in reverse or 1st. If this works then try running the engine for couple of minutes and then start driving. It is possible that you might not face this issue again in whole day or even for some days but the issue isn’t resolved, if the battery is under warranty give if for recharging and if it’s not then it’s time to replace with the new one. If the pushing of car doesn’t work then there might be some other issues which should be consulted to expert mechanic, InstaMech can help you for solution at your place.
  3. The alternator is crucial part which recharges battery. The alternator is connected with engine by a belt. The cold winter could damage the belt by developing cracks in it. A squealing noise while cranking the engine could be a sign of its damage. A General Checkup for your vehicle could help identify the issue with alternator or its belt. You might even notice battery warning light on dashboard.
  4. In petrol cars the spark plug which helps in ignition of car if damaged can cause issues in starting. In winter due to low temperatures metal tend to contract and even corrode the ceramic plug. If the vehicle not providing proper acceleration while running or get signs of corrosion on spark plug then it’s time for checkup. Sometimes issue can also be avoided by cleaning the spark plugs and if not then replace. Contact InstaMech for further process.
  5. In winter the liquids like engine oil, transmission oil, coolant, etc. have tendency to increase density and viscosity. So the circulation of engine oil in the system is slow comparatively. You can sometimes see low engine temperatures warning light on dashboard and also observe issue in cold starting. You should regularly do oil change as per recommended grade other than that you can run the engine for 5-6 mins while cold starting in idle condition.
